Syllabus, Course Guidelines, and Re-testing Policy
Latin I Course Description
Latin is a challenging and highly rewarding class that offers students many broadly applicable benefits, not the least of which is enhanced reading & analytical skills. Our introduction to the language, via the Cambridge Latin Courses, emphasizes comprehension of the Latin language through reading, which is supported by a foundation of vocabulary and working with grammar through a combination of comprehensible input, practice, and instruction. Students will learn and communicate basic Latin, read and interpret Latin in a variety of ways, and become acquainted with the first century A.D. Roman world – history, literature, mythology, politics, daily life, etc. – through research, experimentation, and hands-on creation. Over the course of the language study, students will develop a lifelong appreciation of the Latin language and modernity’s gifts from and enduring connections to the classical world.
Materials needed for class each day
Your iPad, a Latin binder/organizer, paper, pens & pencils, a red pen or pencil for correcting, and your covered textbook (Cambridge Latin Course, replacement price approx. $48). At times, other supplies like markers, highlighters, etc. may also be required. Certain Apps and Home Screen “Links” on your iPad will also be announced, as needed.

School policy allows two days for make-up work to be completed for each day that a student is absent. Fair Warning: all missing grades are entered as a 1 until the make-up work is submitted and graded.
